Resources for Artists
This list is in now way exhaustive and does not at all appeal to the perfectionist inside me. But if you’re an Artist in Brooklyn you should at least know about these resources.
Brooklyn Arts Council – grants, a directory of artists, and events galore. I suggest you follow their Twitter as they’re always twittering about grant opportunities. (Full Disclosure: I intern a the BAC and often tweet from their account.)
Artnet – great for knowing the monetary value of art.
Artslant- art news, artist profiles, listing of galleries and openings.
Art Fag City- one of the best blogs about art.
NYFA – (New York Foundation for the Arts) grants, job opportunities for artists, and spaces for rent.
Joanne Mattera - Great professional development insight on being a working AND thriving artist. She delves into topics like dealing with art galleries and promotion and marketing on the regular. Mattera is a visual artist.
Lori McNee fine art and tips- Professional development such as how to price your art work and technical tips to improve the craft as well. McNee is a visual artist working primarily with paints.
